Bhutan Economy

The Bhutanese economy, with a population of 742.7 thousand (Est 2012), ranks 156th in the world with a GDP PPP of $4.7 Billion and GDP PPP per capita of $6,370 vs. 53,101 (United States) according to the IMF in 2013. Its currency is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) that is issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan (www.rma.org.bt). The local banks within the country offer standard international bank products that include current accounts, fixed deposits, savings account, foreign currency accounts as well as recurring deposits. According to the CIA.gov website, its inflation was 11% in 2013 and 10.9% in 2012.
